The duration of your therapy depends on several factors, including medical necessity, skilled need, and insurance authorization.
Medical Necessity & Skilled Need: Your therapy will continue as long as it is medically necessary and you demonstrate a skilled need for physical, occupational, or speech therapy. Skilled therapy is required when a licensed therapist must provide treatment due to the complexity of your condition, the need for ongoing assessment, or specialized interventions that cannot be safely performed by a caregiver alone.
Insurance Authorization: Most insurance plans, including Medicare and private insurers, require prior authorization or periodic re-evaluations to determine continued coverage. The length of therapy is typically based on your progress, functional goals, and whether further improvement is expected with skilled intervention.
Progress-Based Adjustments: Your therapist will regularly assess your improvement. If you reach your goals or plateau, therapy may be modified, transitioned to a home exercise program, or discontinued if skilled intervention is no longer necessary. We work closely with your physician and insurance provider to ensure that you receive the appropriate level of care for as long as it is medically needed. If you have questions about your specific insurance coverage, our team is happy to assist.

For your physical, occupational, or speech therapy session at Imperial Physical Therapy, it’s important to wear comfortable and appropriate attire to ensure ease of movement and optimal treatment. Here’s what we recommend:
For Physical Therapy (PT):
Loose-fitting, comfortable clothing – Think athletic wear like t-shirts, sweatpants, shorts, or yoga pants.
Supportive footwear – Wear sneakers or athletic shoes with good grip and support. Avoid sandals, flip-flops, or heels.
Layers – A light jacket or hoodie can be useful if you tend to get cold.
For Occupational Therapy (OT):
Comfortable, casual clothing – Ensure ease of movement for upper body exercises and fine motor activities.
Short sleeves or loose tops – These are helpful for hand, wrist, or arm therapy.
Proper footwear – If your therapy involves mobility training, wear closed-toe, non-slip shoes.
For Speech-Language Pathology (SLP):
Any comfortable attire – No specific dress code, but wear clothing that makes you feel comfortable during communication exercises.
If swallowing therapy is involved – You may want to avoid tight collars or clothing that puts pressure on your neck.
Additional Tips:
Avoid wearing jeans or restrictive clothing that may limit movement.
If you have a brace or medical device, bring or wear it to your session.
If you’re recovering from surgery or have sensitive areas, wear loose clothing that allows easy access for treatment.
Dressing appropriately helps you get the most out of your therapy and ensures you can move safely and comfortably!
